To Hel and Back
A challenge for charity…
Late in March 2010, Tom Picton and Carl James left to drive from Buckinghamshire, England, to Die Hel near Cape Town in South Africa, then attempt to drive back home. On 7th April 2011 we completed the challenge, having travelling 31,000miles and through 38 countries.
We travelled down the East coast of Africa, before returning up the far less travelled and less developed West coast.
From the savanah to the sahara, dropping to the lowest point on the African landmass, crossing full blown mountain ranges with vitually non existent roads before inching our way through mosquito infested swamps – this really is the ultimate travelling challenge.
A circumnavigation of Africa, the hardest way round we could have found, but we hope to leave a lasting legacy through helping Link Ethiopia improve sports provision in Northern Ethiopia. We do not hide that 11 months travelling abroad makes us very lucky, but hope to use the trip as a way of raising money for two amazing charities Link Ethiopia and Alzheimer’s Research Trust UK.
